Portishead have released a brand new track exclusively for Amnesty International called Chase The Tear. It’s available as an exclusive download from online store 7digital with all proceeds going to Amnesty. The new song is the band’s first new material since their last album Third in 2008. To accompany the new song, the band have also produced a promo video for it that can be seen at the Amnesty International website, links below.

Released to co-incide with International Human Rights Day (December 10th), Chase The Tear has a more upbeat backing track than usual, but you can hear influences from Third and is still unmistakeably Portishead. The title, according to Amnesty’s site, refers to a paper-style “tear”. In other words, rather than the liquid that comes from your eyes. The album Third had an eleven year gap from it’s predecessor. However the band said in interview have said they hope to follow it up much quicker this time. They have hinted that a new album could surface as soon as late 2010. What label that will eventually appear on is not clear. The band are now free of their contract with Mercury/Island after the release of Third.

If you would like to support this good cause, please buy the track from available outlets.
